Balance of Plant

Our extensive, in-house wind energy project and site management expertise enables us to compile high quality and competitive balance of plant packages for clients.

We possess an in-depth knowledge of all wind turbine installation requirements and have a long track record in building turnkey projects. We've worked on almost every wind turbine project undertaken in Orkney to date, including those in Westray, Flotta and on Burgar Hill.

We carry out all associated site and road survey work, in addition to preparing documentation for sub-contractors.

Access Roads

At Heddle Construction we're proud of our ability to create wind turbine site access roads in all types of ground conditions and challenging environments.

No wind farm can function without proper access for construction vehicles, turbine erection and maintenance. The roads we build are therefore strong, durable and capable of providing safe access for the entire life of the site.

When constructing access roads we thoroughly assess the site, providing drainage channels and crossings where required. Our extensive evaluations also seek to minimise any environmental impact.

Foundations

Experienced in building a wide variety of wind turbine foundations, Heddle Construction has worked for a number of different manufacturers, including Enercon, Nordex, Vestas and NEG Micon.

We've been involved with almost every wind energy project in Orkney, on the mainland and throughout the islands.

Clearly, foundations are a critical element of the complete wind turbine structure, with expertise in the field an absolutely essential requirement for contractors. That's why developers continue to turn to Heddle Construction to undertake such vital work.

Our track record in successfully delivering wind energy projects is second to none, with our considerable knowledge of concrete handling and rigorous attention to quality control particularly valued by clients. We also regularly carry out maintenance work on turbines, replacing gearboxes and generators.

Erection

Heddle Construction offers a fully integrated approach to crane hire and contract lifts for wind turbine erection.

Our modern crane fleet is available for hire if clients already have qualified workers on site, or we can supply our own highly experienced personnel to carry out lifts.

We assign a single point of contact for clients, taking care of all the necessary paperwork, including lifting plans, risk assessments and method statements.
